Mouli is a cotton red thread roll, considered to be very sacred and used in all religious purposes of the Hindus. The thread is used as an offering of cloth to the deity. The Mouli thread is an integral part of any puja and is tied around Sadhana items, Coconut, Kalash and Seat of Gods. . The sacred thread is tied around the wrist of the devotees before commencing any Puja. In Many places, people tie mouli threads to the temple trees to get their wishes fulfilled. The string represents the bond between Atma (soul) and Paramatma (God). You tie / bind yourself into the service of God. It is a Raksha-sutra (like a raakhi) and hence protects its wearer from evil spirits.
